چکیده
‘FastContact’ is a server that estimates the direct electrostatic and desolvation interaction free energy between two proteins in units of kcal/mol. Users submit two proteins in PDB format, and the output is emailed back to the user in three files: one output file, and the two processed proteins. Besides the electrostatic and desolvation free energy, the server reports residue contact free energies that rapidly highlight the hotspots of the interaction and evaluates the van der Waals interaction using CHARMm. Response time is »1min. The server has been successfully tested and validated, scoring refined complex structures and blind sets of docking decoys, as well as proven useful predicting protein interactions. ‘FastContact’ offers unique capabilities from biophysical insights to scoring and identifying

Asthma and air pollution in the Bronx: methodological and data considerations in using GIS for environmental justice and health research.
This paper examines methods of environmental justice assessment with Geographic Information Systems, using research on the spatial correspondence between asthma and air pollution in the Bronx, New York City as a case study. Issues of spatial extent and resolution, the selection of environmental burdens to analyze, data and methodological limitations, and different approaches to delineating expo...
متن کاملResearch Note—a New Method for Mapping Population and Understanding the Spatial Dynamics of Disease in Urban Areas: Asthma in the Bronx, New York1
Determining an accurate depiction of population distribution for urban areas in order to develop an improved “denominator” is important for the calculation of higher-precision rates in GIS analyses, particularly when exploring the spatial dynamics of disease. Rather than using data aggregated by arbitrary administrative boundaries such as census tracts, we developed the Cadastral-Based Expert D...
متن کاملImpact of LEED-certified affordable housing on asthma in the South Bronx.
BACKGROUND Green housing reduces energy costs and may mitigate indoor allergens and pollutants, improving asthma morbidity. High asthma burden is seen in low-income neighborhoods. Past studies show improvements in respiratory symptoms when living in green homes. OBJECTIVE Develop partnership with Blue Sea Development Company to determine impacts of living in Melrose Commons V (MCV), a Leaders...
متن کاملLoose-coupling an air dispersion model and a geographic information system (GIS) for studying air pollution and asthma in the Bronx, New York City.
This study developed new procedures to loosely integrate an air dispersion model, AERMOD, and a geographic information system (GIS) package, ArcGIS, to simulate air dispersion from stationary sources in the Bronx, New York City, for five pollutants: PM(10), PM(2.5), NO(x), CO, and SO(2). Plume buffers created from the model results were used as proxies of human exposure to the pollution from th...
متن کاملEvaluation of Serum Levels of Calprotectin in Asthmatic Children
Background Calprotectin is a cytosolic protein that belongs to the S-100 protein group with immunomodulatory and antiproliferative actions. The level of this protein increases in infection, inflammation, and malignancy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of...
